The world of Hunger Games

Panem

This picture shows us the location of each district in Panem. It also shows us where each districts are on the map of North America.

District 1

District 1 is one of the wealthiest districts. It's main industry is the manifacturisation of luxury items. In this district, some kids are trained from a young age to participate in the Hunger Games, making them a Career district.

District 2

District 2 is one of the largest and wealthiest districts of Panem. After the First Rebellion, they were rewarded for their alliance to the Capitol with better treatment and living conditions. However, they still have to work as much as the other districts and they are not exempt from the Hunger Games. Their main industry is stone quarries and masonery work. During the Second Rebellion, it is also revealed that they recruit, train and manifacture weapons for the the Peacekeepers. In this district, some kids are trained from a young age to participate in the Hunger Games, making them a Career district.

District 3

District 3's main industry is technology. Although people live in abject poverty and work in factories, most of them are very adept at engineering. During the First Rebellion, they were the first district to start and uprising.

District 4

District 4 is one of the wealthiest district of Panem. Its main industry is fishing, in which the kids are trained from a young age to obtain jobs in this industry. In this district, some kids are trained from a young age to participate in the Hunger Games, making them a Career district.

District 5

District 5's main industry is power and electricity, which makes them responsible for generating power for the entire nation.

District 6

District 6's main indurstry is transportation. It is also hinted that they have a drug addiction issue in their district. They were bombed after katniss destroyed the arena

District 7

District 7 is apparently full of trees. Thus their main industry is lumber and the production of paper for the Capitol. Because of this industry, people from this district are known to be skilled with axes.

Distrcit 8

District 8's main industry is the production of textile and they have a whole factory used for the production of the Peacekeeper's uniforms. They are believed to be one of the most rebellious district in the Second Rebellion since they started the war themselves.

Distrcit 9

District 9's main industry is the production of grains. Although they are poor, they have better living conditions than district 11 and 12.

District 10

District 10's main indurstry is livestock. They mainly provide meat for the Capitol. It is also the third most poor district of Panem.

District 11

District 11 is a land full of fields. Their main industry is agriculture, but they are not allowed to eat the food they produce since everything is reserved for the Capitol. They are the second most poor district of Panem. In this district, the Peacekeepers are very strict with the inhabitants of district 11 due to the importance of their industry.

District 12

District 12 is the smallest and poorest district of Panem. Their main industry is coal mining but after the Second Rebellion, the mines were closed and their main industry became medecine production. At the age of 18, most kids end up working in the mines for the rest of their life. In this district, the population was divided between the merchants and the Seam. The merchants were families of people with businesses, considered well-off in District 12's standards. The Seam was the poorest part of District 12, where food was extremely hard to find. Most coal miners lived in the Seam. After Katniss destroys the arena, District 12 was bombed to dust, killing almost all of its inhabitants. Luckily, Gale managed to guide a few hundred people out of the district and into the forest where him and Katniss used to hunt.

Distrcit 13

District 13 was one of the 13 districts of Panem before being an independant nation for 75 years after the First Rebellion. However, during those years, they were believed to be destroyed by chemical bombs, when in reality they had secretly come to an arragment with the Capitol during the Firsr Rebellion. Their main industry was more commonly known to be graphite mining, but it was revealed that their primary industry was nuclear science and technology. They decided to stay hidden for 75 years instead of continuing the war because both them and the Capitol wanted to avoid a nuclear war. They built themselves a life underground while the rest of Panem participated in the Hunger Games. A few years before the story begins, District 13 suffered from a pox outbreak, killing most of their population and leaving the survivors infertile. Because of this, it is suggested that District 13's kindness and acceptance of the refugees might have been caused by the need of a fertile population to stay alive.

The Capitol

The Capitol of Panem is an utopian city, technologically advanced and powerfull. All of the wealthy, famous and powerfull citizens live there. The Capitol led by President Snow is a tyrannical dictatorship imposing it's political and economical dominance over the districts. The Capitol ensures its control over Panem with the help of the Peacekeepers. They also control the population by enforcing capital punishments, fear of nuclear bombings, propaganda and the Hunger Games. The Capitol is most commonly known for its extravagant fashion and its luxurious food. The residents of the Capitol are considered the elite of Panem and are said to have the most important roles in the nation.
